This is a continuation of The Housemaid by Freida McFadden (recommend reading them in order). Millie is bettering herself by going back to school and while still working as a housemaid. She has a new life and boyfriend, Brock. She is trying to move away from her past gigs of helping women get out of abusive relationships. We learn after the first book, she dedicated part of her life to help as many women as she could out of domestic violence but with her past prison record, it was hard to stay out of trouble. She would do anything to get these woman free as she felt it was her calling. Now moving forward with her life, she wants to better herself by going to school and helping woman the legal way in social work.

She now works for a new family, The Garricks. Wendy and Douglas are very wealthy as Douglas is a CEO of a tech company. Millie loves that she is getting paid well but can’t seem to notice the way Wendy and Douglas relationship is. She keeps thinking that something is happening behind closed doors. As much as she doesn’t want to get back into her past ways, Millie wants to ignore as much as possible but when Wendy comes out with a black eye, she knows she needs to help.

Now Millie is stuck helping Wendy get out her abusive relationship, alone. She doesn’t want to tell her new boyfriend Brock about her past life so she lies to him about her whereabouts. Millie ends up helping Wendy all they way through to end the relationship with Wendy and Douglas. Millie shoots Douglas to help Wendy escape.

Now Wendy can live a happy life with her husband gone. Millie feels accomplished as she helped another woman out of abuse. She can now live a normal life with Brock and move forward but when the police call her into questioning she finds out she is the main suspect for murder. The police were told by Wendy that Millie and Douglas were having an affair and out of jealousy Millie killed Douglas.

How could Wendy do this to Millie? All Millie wanted was the best for Wendy but Wendy betrayed her! Millie comes clean to the police that she was helping but the police don’t buy it especially with her prison record. Who would believe a past criminal?

Part 2 and 3 of the book is Millie unraveling the truth of this Murder. Millie did kill someone but was it Douglas? Why would Wendy lie to the police? Millie has been lying to her boyfriend, Brock through their relationship once he knows the truth he wants nothing to do with Millie. Who can Millie rely on now? Millie has nobody, or does she?

I have to say, this book was better then the first! The author did an amazing job not copying the first book with a similar storyline. This book has a whole new twist, a whole new thrill to it. In the end of the first one, you sort of get an idea of what the second might be about but this book blew it out of expectations. The part that I thought could have been left out was the very ending. The author took the time to connect Millie to the murder of Wendy by explaining how Millie planned to give medication to Wendy to die a slow death, I don’t think that was needed. This made the ending less realistic. I understand it was trying to enforce how determined Millie can be but it was briefly mentioned. This could have been explain more throughly. All in all, highly recommend!
