Graduation is suppose to be a day full of joy and accomplishment, not for Gemma. Gemma has been shot and placed into a coma! Her mother and father are devastated who could have done this? They are in the hospital and they come to find out that Gemma is pregnant! Who is the father? Was it her ex-boyfriend? Why didn’t Gemma share this with her parents?
The story is told back and fourth between Gemma, her mother, her father and the private investigator. They are all piecing together what happened and how they can catch this perpetrator. Her mother starts reading through Gemma’s diary that might lead her with information to who could have done this to her. She finds out that Alex, her ex-boyfriend, was more aggressive with her than her mother thought. Maybe Alex did this to her out of rage? Her mom keeps reading and finds out that Gemma was seeing someone else after she broke it off with Alex. ’S’ who is S?
As her mother watches over Gemma in the hospital and reading into information, her father is off in his own headspace. He feels like he should come clean about his past. His ex-wife might be out to get back at him. The police are questioning everyone but are particularly interested in Gemma’s fathers past. He comes clean to the police about his ex-wife in an unwell mental state. Now he needs to come clean to his wife and daughter but how could he? Did he cause all of this?
’S’ is Gemma’s tutor! Gemma needed to tell ’S’ and she came to find he is happily married with his pregnant wife. Gemma was furious when she found out that she is pregnant at the same time as the wife! How could Gemma have let this happen. Gemma feels alone, who can she go to for comfort? As her mother reads on, she feels sick to her stomach that she hasn’t been there for her daughter.
Helplessly waiting for their daughter to wake up news has broadcasted that, ’S’ has been shot and killed! Gemma’s tutor has been killed in his own home. Did the wife find out about his affair?
So, who shot Gemma, the tutor’s wife, father’s ex-wife, or someone else?
Overall, good read. It kept me entertained but was slow. We read a lot about the private investigators side of the story and details about Gemma’s mothers past that I felt was unnecessary fillers. It might have been there to try and throw us off but was not engaging enough to help me get through those chapters. I wanted to skip some chapters because I knew the information wasn’t going anywhere. If you want a book to keep you up to guess the shooter, this is the book for you but be aware of fillers.
