Doctor Anne Wiley is a by-the-book cardiologist surgeon that has the best intentions for all her patients. She takes pride in her known record of the town and has been selected to be the billboard surgeon in advertisement of her hospital. Most people know her as the heart doctor! Who wouldn’t trust the blonde, picture perfect surgeon to undergo your surgery?

Derek, is a charming career driven husband. He is actively running for next year mayor which takes most of his nights away from Anne. Derek and Anne live in the home that Anne grew up in with her mom because Anne can’t move from her mournful past with her little sister. Melanie, Anne’s adopted sister, suffered a tragic past that Anne will never forget in the house that it all happened in. Other than her constantly missing her sister, everything Anne dreamed of she is living.

Until, one surgery that could change everything. Her patient died under her care and she knows she called his death faster than she would normally. Something about this person makes the situation different but nobody can know.

Once a patient dies under a doctors care, the board of doctors will review the case to make sure the correct procedures and calls where made. Anne, of course, knows this but she feels like someone will find out what Anne truly did in the surgery room. Along with this board meeting pressure, an Assistant State Attorney visits her office to ask suspicious questions that only her mother, husband or surgery team would know. How does this attorney know so much? Each week, this attorney, Paula, asks a little more that scares Anne to her core. Does she know what she has done, but how?

Derek is always there to listen and comfort Anne even when she tells him the truth. All he wants to do is help his wife out of this career ending situation. Derek studied law and is close to most big shot attorneys in town will Derek know Paula? Will Anne lose her license for this one patient? Will Paula scope out Anne’s true intentions in the surgery?

Great build up to the story! This book will slam you with thrilling events straight away. It draws you in and gives you detailed explanations of Anne’s thoughts which makes you feel like you are in the surgery room with her. The author did a profound job letting you in with details throughout the book to tie you in to the patient that died on Anne’s table. When we find out what happened to Melanie, Anne’s younger sister, the author could have brought the story in slower. An entire chapter should have been dedicated to Melanie and her experience. Overall, fun read that you will never guess what happens next!
